Expressing my creativity has been an essential part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I developed my own technique of ‘painting with photographs’ and using this personal style of photomontage, I have created this exhibition based on my observations of life in India. The larger pictures merge up to 40 multi-layered individual photographs to create one intense scene. I aim to capture the essence of India, especially the diversity of urban life, with its colourful juxtaposition of new and old, rich and poor, and especially the energy and vibrancy of the country.

Above all, the intensity of life is portrayed. The sheer density of colourful, distilled, humanity, on this sub-continent, probably sits on the widest continuum of social acceptance in the world.

The light, shades and tints of the ‘exotic east’ which, in our muted atmosphere would be garish, are highlighted at home amongst the mundanity of dusty streets and polluted roads where the tropical luminosity renders them normal.

I intend these multi-layered pictures of India to show a sensitivity to the life and culture of the country, but with total acceptance of reality and absence of sentimentality.
